Julbock, Winter Seasonal

The Julbock (Christmas Goat) is a symbol of Scandinavian Yule tradition dating back to ancient Pagan ceremonies.  Originally celebrating the suns annual re-entry into the astrological sign of Capricornus there is also a connection to the goats Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjóstr who pulled the Norse God Thor’s chariot. Over the centuries this folklore transformed in many ways, as they tend to do, to elves delivering gifts on festive adorned goats and then to the goat itself being the gift-bringer.
It is still celebrated today with large straw effigies of goats and with a tradition called Julebukking similar to wassailing where people dress up in disguise and go house to house singing during the holidays.

This bar is my ode to this ancient tradition. Crafted with raw fresh goat milk from our own Christmas goats and adorned with Juniper Berries, Hawthorn Berries, Pinecones, Star Anise, Cranberry Seeds, and Poppy Seeds.  It is scented with an entire forest of fir needles, pine, cedar, and cypress with notes of cinnamon leaf, clove, star anise, lemon, rosemary and eucalyptus.

Small plastic label to close cardboard box is land fill for end of life.
